Yesterday started with a little bit of rain, which meant that we did a quick pack and had breakfast at McDonald's instead of making it at the campsite. We headed to Four Corners for the first part of our day. We then drove through Monument Valley on our way to the Grand Canyon (You two were not that impressed by Monument Valley although you thought Mexican Hat was kind of cool). You both were a bit wound up and we made you get out of the car and run around the dirt road that circled Mexican Hat.
Once we got to the campground at the Grand Canyon we went to the store to get some supplies for dinner & then went biking and swimming. The bikes were awesome, but hard to peddle. We then had taco bowls for dinner, watched a movie and went to bed a bit early. We all needed it after a long day of driving and knowing we were hiking into the Canyon today.
The Grand Canyon was amazing! We got an early start, which was great because we missed a lot of the crowd. We had great weather. We started over by the Visitors Center and then we hiked over to Bright Angel Trail (a little over 2 miles). Great walk since there was lots of info on the way. Once we were there, we hiked down 1 1/2 miles into the canyon. We had lunch in the canyon and then hiked out. You two did an amazing job. You were anxious and excited to hike down and were really quiet (hot and tired) on the way back up (but no complaints).
Now we are back at the campsite. You both went swimming with Dad and I am doing laundry, cleaning the car and blogging. That's okay though because I am on vacation & it is never as hard on vacation. I also have to say I am enjoying the time alone.
*You will also notice the pictures at the bottom are of our Dashboard S'mores. Yes, they are what they sound like, we cooked S'mores on the dashboard of the car when we were out hiking today. They were yummy, especially the ones with Reeses Peanut Butter Cups. The chocolate was just right, the marshmallows could of been done a bit more.*
