Today we packed it up and hit the road about 9am and we were headed to Cortez, CO (towards Four Corners). It is an absolutely beautiful day. We stopped in the San Juan National Forest and went to a hike up to a really cool waterfall and then we were on the road again. We stopped for a quick lunch and continued on our way.
As we were driving I was reading a magazine Aunt Kathy gave us that talked about MesaVerde National Park, so we decided to stop and explore. The park had cliff dwellings and petroglyphs for us to see and explore. It turned out to be a great afternoon with an awesome 3 mile hike to see the Petroglyphs. When we asked the Park Ranger about the hike he explained the trail, he told us when we got halfway we would see the Petroglyphs and then if we wanted to circle around we would climb a wall and walk along the ridge to return (unless we returned the way we came). He was not kidding when he said climb a wall, we went straight up about 15 feet. Thank goodness we all made it. The hike back had was a bit easier (after the wall climb) and had some amazing views.
We are now sitting by our fire after eating out tin-foil meals (which were great). Jack you had more success tonight with the Jiffy Pop then Asher had last night. Practice makes perfect.
Asher you are becoming quite the cook on this trip. You are the one prepping our “appetizers” and then contributing to our meals. Jack you are always anxious to walk around the campground by yourself and check it out. You either really like to explore new places or are just ready for some alone time after being in the car and together all day.
Tomorrow after a morning swim we are going to Four Corners Monument and are camping near the Grand Canyon.
