Graceland! Who knew we would end up here? I am not an Elvis fan and this was your idea Jack so off we went from New Orleans to Graceland. I was looking forward to it but Jack you were really excited since you had read about Elvis and wanted to see where he lived for yourself.
Well we got to Graceland and it was a hot stuffy night and we were ready to go swimming once we got our campsite settled. We stayed at a campground right in Graceland. Which was awesome since it turned out to be “Elvis Week”, which meant lots of live music and “true” Elvis fans all around. We spotted no less than 8 Elvis’ during the first evening. We settled down in our tents while listening to live performances by “Elvis” on stage next to the campground and Heartbreak Hotel.
The next morning I woke to an awesome breeze at about 6:00am. It was awesome until I realized that a storm was about to come through. I got up quickly and packed my tent and the car. Then I woke the two of you up at about 6:40 and told you, you had about 15 minutes to get packed up before the rains came. You two have become fabulous packers. You were up, packed (sleepin bags stuffed & books in the car) teeth brushed, dressed and in the car within 15 minutes. Which was good since the rains came about 3 minutes later. Where do we go at 6:55 in the morning??? Well, IHOP of course for a slow breakfast of Chocolate Chocolate Chip Pancakes & Sausage (only because they were out of bacon, much to your disappointment Asher). Our slow breakfast & great conversation paid off because about an hour later the skies began to clear & we got ready for our day at Graceland.
We bought our tickets & got in line. Being early paid off because we were in the mansion pretty quick (within 10 minutes) & much to your delight Jack the tour was an interactive Ipad tour. Your own Ipad and earphones (they started this about a year ago). It was great, both of you boys were engaged the entire time & I didn’t have to read lots of stuff or point stuff out). You could program your Ipad for a kids tour or an adult tour. It gave so much information, lots of additional pictures and music. I was so interested (and like I said before I am not a true Elvis fan). After the mansion we went to see Elvis’ cars and then his airplanes. Along the way we did some shopping.
One of the most interesting parts of the day was many of the “diehard fans” we ran into. I had such a nice conversation with a group of older women who were so excited to be at Graceland and had been planning it all year. They were so impressed that Jack chose to come to Graceland. They have been fans for years and one even had a “shrine” in her house to Elvis.
After lots of sightseeing and shopping we had to say good-bye to Graceland and head off to Mammoth Cave.
